Servant of the People

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, Servant of the People

The Vietnamese adage, “Thời thế tạo anh hùng”, literally “The times make the hero”, means that unusual historical circumstances bring exceptional leadership out of individuals who would not ordinarily exhibit particular courage or ability. This aphorism applies perfectly to the case of Ukraine’s plain-spoken Jewish president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, arguably an unremarkable officeholder in relative peacetime, who has met his moment and risen to the challenge spectacularly.  This informational website is dedicated to exposing his improbable life and times, drawing attention to his epic David-vs-Goliath struggle, and attracting desperately needed assistance for him and his people, who were minding their own business when they suddenly got plunged into a prolonged existential jeopardy.

We examine Zelenskyy as a wartime Commander, a President, and an Entertainer, and we look at The Adversary that he is facing, the Russian Vladimir Putin. We delve into Ukraine‘s History and Geography for context. We study the Conflict with Russia as explained by prominent Speakers and follow the Combat developments. We present information on how to Help Ukraine.

"When you attack us, you will see our faces, not our backs."

“We are all here defending our independence, our state.”

“The fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Freedom is not free

Freedom comes at a cost. A freedom-loving person must be willing to contribute to its defense.  Liberal democracies typically don’t aspire to invade their neighbors. Dictators dream of conquest and seek to leave a legacy of glorious territorial expansion, even to the detriment of their own population. Vladimir Putin has lamented the breakup of the Soviet Union as the dissolution of “Historical Russia” and has called that event “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century.” He apparently wants to make Russia great again and wishes to be remembered as Vladimir the Great, and for Kyiv to be known as Putingrad. Under his authoritarian regime, Russia is fast becoming a North Korea-like state, prompting some 200,000 prescient Russians to take refuge in neighboring countries. China’s Xi Jinping apparently has similar grandiose designs in Eastern Asia. Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that he and his Ukrainian compatriots are fighting against Russian aggression not only to secure their own independence but also to protect all people against tyranny. We should believe him, we should speak out, and we should stand with Ukraine.
